French is started in the First Form. It is continued until the 6th Form, when they take Common Entrance or Scholarship papers. Spanish is also offered as a Monday activity. The ethos of teaching is balanced between the four skills: Listening, speaking, reading and writing. French is used as much as possible in the classroom. To encourage the boys to use the language there is a 6th Form trip to Normandy every year (see pictures below). As well as lessons taught by native speakers there are educational activities, including visits to the Tapestry at Bayeux and tours of the Normandy landing beaches.
