Instrumental & Solo Singing Competition Finals: 27 May, 2010 |
Adjudicator: David Woodcock, Director of Music, Harrow School
David Woodcock is a Fellow of The Royal College of Organists, for which he sits on the Academic Board and is an examiner. As well as teaching at Harrow School, he also performs as a singer with the Tallis Scholars and the Choir of the English Concert. He has given many organ recitals throughout the UK, and last year ago he performed to critical acclaim at the Ars Organi Festival in Slovakia. He was educated in Canterbury, where he was a Chorister at the Cathedral, followed by Organ Scholar at Queens’ College Cambridge. As Director of Music at Harrow he has overseen over eighty concerts in the last twelve months.
Well done to all of the boys. Their performances were very impressive, and David Woodcock's assessments perceptive and thorough, with lots of good advice given. Special mention should be made of H Guy, who had the 'Prize of the Night', giving H Laing the Solo Singing Prize. Once more, though, well done to everyone: and the audience, including parents, were great too!
