EXPLANATION (see also General Information):

For the first two Mark Readings, the Discipline, Work and Effort totals are combined. These are on the linked sheets, below. In addition, the top three boys for Effort are read out by the Headmaster in the Assembly.

First Mark Reading

Second Mark Reading

THIRD MARK READING below - No Effort grades for this one.

Adusted total: This is designed to balance the number of boys in each House. For example, McArthur has 62, and Cooper has 58. Cooper's total is therefore increased by (score divided by 58, then multiplied by 62).

HOW IT ALL WORKS:

There are three separate competitions for Discipline, Academic & Industry:

15, 12, 9, 6 - Discipline
10, 7, 5, 3 - Academic (Work Pluses, on the sheets)
10, 7, 5, 3 - Effort Grades, just in the Mark Reading

Note that discipline is just the pluses on the sheets in the Junior Corridor, Industry is Effort Grades (not published on any chart, but just on the Mark Reading), and Work Pluses are in the Junior Corridor or, for the Seniors, in the Academic Block. In each Mark Reading Effort is rewarded, and the top ones in each Form are read out by the Headmaster in the Mark Reading Assembly.

SPORT: Separate Senior (10, 7, 5, 3) and Junior (5, 3, 2, 1) competitions for Rugby, Hockey and Cricket. To determine the overall winners combine both scores and award the following points : 10,7,5,3

SUMMER TERM: Athletics: Because it is a whole school event, this is awarded 10, 7, 5, 3.

Basketball, Chess and Swimming are awarded 5, 3, 2, 1.

Music Industry is 5, 3, 2, 1, and Bookitch gets 10, 7, 5, 3.

Complete Mark Readings are 10, 7, 5, 3. (5, 3, 2, 1 for a 3rd Mark Reading)

WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?

There is  a winning House for each Mark Reading, allocated according to the criteria above (first line).

In the Autumn and summer terms there are three, in the Spring Term two.

When the termly totals are calculated, each complete Mark Reading is awarded points as on the last line above.

In addition, the relevant termly sports are included, and the scores for Music industry and Bookitch added.
