The School

Caldicott is literally across the road from Burnham Beeches, in nearly forty acres of green belt land. We moved here from Hitchin in 1938, and the original house is still in use, though now set amongst modern, even state-of-the-art buildings.

The picture of the house (right) was taken in 2004. Downstairs are the staff rooms, changing rooms, some boys' common rooms (including one with a full size and a half-size snooker table), the Headmaster's Study, and the School Office.

The first floor houses most 6th Form boys' dormitories and a senior boarding housemaster's flat, and the very top floor contains staff accommodation.

The west side of this house faces you as you come down the drive. Having driven in, with the main entrance ahead of you, on your right is the famous Top Field.

This is the traditional home pitch of the 1st XV, though these days many teams get to play there - it's even the venue for hockey occasionally!

The hard surface is to your left. This is a floodlit play area, popular with the boys in the evenings.
