THE SECRET GARDEN

bookweekmon

Book Week got off to a great start this morning for the Junior School boys. After a Chapel Service conducted by the Headmaster, the boys went into Centenary Hall to listen to the story of ‘The Secret Garden’. Miraculously, over the weekend, a garden has appeared in the hall and there was such excitement and eager anticipation to see what was behind the door. After brainstorming ideas for what they thought they might find, the boys were allowed to visit and explore this magical wonderland. They were enchanted as they came across fairies, furry animals, mystical features, a chocolate tree and ‘Granny’, who was not looking all that healthy after consuming some of ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’. They returned to their classrooms and were asked to write their own descriptions of the garden or a fiction story that might have had this garden as a setting. Using this visual experience the boys have been encouraged to use their imagination to create interesting and exciting stories.
