HOC representative to talk to 3-6th Form boys in the Centenary Hall PARENTS' READING INFORMATION AFTERNOON As part of Book Week 2007, the Junior School parents were invited to join me to learn the ‘Secrets’ of how we teach reading in the Junior School at Caldicott. It was great to have so many of them at this session. The aim of this was to give them an idea of the ways in which the boys are exposed to reading during the day to foster their love of learning and books. They were also given some new strategies to help their sons with learning and reading at home. CJM has been getting 5M and 5C to write an ending to Saki’s short story ‘The Open Window’ (which are doors really!) 6L and Alpha are writing a story for the Sixth Form Story competition. CJM also has read to the Third Forms in the Library from an abridged ‘Alice’ and from ‘Winnie the Pooh’. With JRRF 6P and 6F have continued with their planning for their stories. They have also discussed beginnings to stories (grabbing the reader), saw Alan Gibbons’ short story ‘Tunnel Vision’ and discussed atmosphere and language. 5A have continued with their Readerss Theatre and we have now decided on the names of the characters (see below). 4H have almost finished planning and are getting ready to start their stories. Characters’ Names

The choices: Emily Woodhouse Rory Ellis had a number of votes, but too many boys didn’t like it and a blind vote then decided on Will Carter A STORY PLAN - by A Adebayo (12.09)
