An interview with Adrian Hollyer, our Bursar, at the start of our green campaign.
Question: What have we done so far?
Answer: First we have put the green recycling bins in the classrooms,
and then we put the light sensors in, and soon we are going to have
some glass bins and even aluminium can bins.
Question: What is going to change?
Answer: We are going to introduce a special container for glass and
cans so that the bin men can take them away. The other thing that we
might try is a compost bin for all the fruit and vegetables and even
shredded paper.
Question: Are the changes going to be drastic?
Answer: We hope so. There is a new project we are going to introduce
which the boys aren’t allowed to know, but we are also going to try and
get solar panels for this.
Question: Are there any other energy resources we are going to use at Caldicott?
Answer: We might introduce wind power. It might be on Spens Field but
we will definitely have small turbines for specific buildings.
Question: Are we going to put light sensors anywhere else in the school?
Answer: Yes we are going to try to put them in the ICT room, the library, the Art Room and in the DT block.
Question: How long until the light sensors turn the lights off?
Answer: Ten minutes.
Question: How much did the light sensors cost?
Answer: Not much. In six months the sensors will have paid for themselves
