The Autumn 2007 senior school play was The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew, a classic encounter between good and evil. The evil is represented by Baron Bolligrew, played with suitable venom by H Vernau. Attempting to thwart the baron’s stranglehold on supreme power on Bolligrew Island is Sir Oblong Fitz Oblong, played by JJ Gibbs. Both of these parts had huge numbers of lines and the boys learned them thoroughly and for produced performances of conviction, subtlety and energy. ![]() Sir Digby Vane-Trumpington (O Pollock) and Sir Graceless Strongbody (T Swift) H Stopps was a revelation as Blackheart, Bolligrew’s evil henchman; F Coupland, as the scheming Dr Moloch was faultless. S Wood-Dow might well have had the part of Magpie written specifically for him. His and T Ahmed’s 'corpsing' on the second night will live long in the memory. W Spooner was a regal Duke, and H Reynolds a delight as a west country Obidiah Bobblenob. All this was presided over with authority by A Spratling as the Storyteller.
This was a tremendous cast and the boys gave their all to make the two evenings a success. They all worked really hard, and should be thoroughly proud of their efforts.
