These are just a few items from the Autumn Term. There is so much more - feel free to investigate the site, and have a look at all of September, October, November and December for an even fuller picture.

In September our new Deputy Headmaster, Mark Smith, arrived from Millfield to take over the reins from Andy Rathborne, who had been promoted to Headmaster of Craigclowan School, in Scotland. This coincided perfectly with one of the famous Caldicott science lectures, taken this time by the Head of Science at Millfield. He definitely enjoyed setting fire to Mr Smith - and other Caldicott staff and boys. Don't worry - Health and Safety would have no qualms about this one. Despite the spectacular effects it was all perfectly safe.

A baptism of fire

It is always good to welcome ex-pupils to Caldicott. You may remember Yosuke Matsumiya, ex-Head Boy, training now to be a doctor, who was our first pianist in the opening of the Centenary Hall. Well, Jamie Brown, in his final year at Radley, returned to perform to his old prep school. I remember, he was a pretty good pianist even as a 12-year-old, but his performance this time certainly impressed everyone. It was a varied programme, and details can be found here.

Of course, the autumn term was not just about concerts and fire! There was also some serious academic work. Below you can see B Jang doing some really quite difficult maths. No, the teacher didn't write it in the board - it really is all his own work, and he was teaching the class all about it - whatever it is!

Now this is how you do it!

It was also good to see the youngest boys enjoying their rugby, and making new friends. The picture below shows some of the First Form after one of their U8 matches.

Yes. Rugby is fun!

The Caldicott bonfire night (November 5th) is famous: so famous, indeed, that the local populace lean on the fence on Crown Lane and watch.

Glorious fireworks

Parents also were heavily involved in Caldicott life, as usual! They did so much throughout the term, from welcoming new parents to decorating a (Christmas) tree. However, the picture below is not about this. Mr & Mrs Atkinson, whose son is in the third form, did Moggins Turn. This was supported by the school, and it was great to see them bring in the car just before setting off. It is well worth having a look at their page, particularly if you like cars!

Off for a jaunt

The final event of term is the Boarders' Christmas Dinner. This is one of the great traditions of Caldicott.
There is singing around the tree in the Front Hall, then a great meal, then a present each, then great entertainment.

The Headmaster serving!

Don't worry if your son is too young for all of this. The day boys have a great time too!

Eat your veg!

William, I'm glad you're practising your reading with some great literature - but look at those lovely carrots and peas to eat!
