UPDATED 23 JULYThank you so much for the generous contributions to the three charities we have supported during the Summer Term 2008. Online donation is now finished, but we are delighted with the totals reached, and will keep this section updated with details of our next projects, and information about these as we receive it. Our first new project is already under way - the Headmaster has just walked 60 miles. See immediately below. ACTIVE - SPONSORED WALK – FROM THE HEADMASTERAs the Chairman of Governors mentioned my walk in his speech, here is more information about it. On Saturday, 19 July, I undertook a 60 mile walk in 24 hours along the South Downs way. It is called Trailwalker UK. Money raised during the walk goes to Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT) to fund their work tackling poverty and suffering, giving hope of a better, more secure future to poor people and their communities. Oxfam works all over the world; GWT works specifically in Gurkha communities in Nepal. If anyone would like to support these marvellous charities please visit www.justgiving.com/simondoggart. If you want to give anonymously on this public site please do so, but drop me a line so that I can thank you. Thanks already for the generous contributions received - already over 1/3 of the way to the total ... Thomley Hall Activity Centre
This is a recreational and educational facility for disabled children, their families, friends and schools. It is just off the M40 and it is a non-profit charitable organisation. The Centre Manager talked in an assembly last term; the boys were moved by what they saw. We would like to set up a Caldicott Fund to pay for disabled children to have days at Thomley.
TOTAL RAISED: £2414.23 (including gift aid) Mvumi Secondary SchoolThis is a school in Tanzania. The headmaster, John Clark, is a friend of the Headmaster’s and was a housemaster at Eton College. The school is near Dodoma, and is a secondary school for day and boarding students. Many students’ families cannot afford the fees and I hope that a Caldicott Fund will give this marvellous opportunity to some highly motivated African teenagers. Their website is here.
TOTAL RAISED: £2191.03 (including gift aid)
Diabetes UKOur Housekeeper Mrs Banning-Boddy (who I'm sure you all know as Nondus), ran the London Marathon this year. She ran for Diabetes UK, obviously a cause close to AGP's heart! She did really well, around 4½ hours, and has already already raised well over £550. We would be grateful for a donation, however small. I'm sure she won't mind if I quote in full an email sent to all of the Caldicott staff: I would like to thank everyone on behalf of Diabetes UK, who have been so very generous in sponsoring me for the 2008 London Marathon ... So again thank you all very much. My official time was 4:30:47, overall finishing position 19587 out of 34292 and 79th out of 305 in age group ( that sounds better!). TOTAL RAISED: £620.00 (including gift aid) |
