The First Weekend

Weekends at Caldicott are very relaxed. The aim is to give those boys staying in the chance to unwind after a busy week with ‘down-time’ where they are free to relax and do their own thing, and also to be organised just enough to have a bit of structure over Saturday evening and Sunday. There are often visits to restaurants, the cinema, ice-skating, sailing, walking and many more.

The First Weekend of Term

As this was the first weekend it was spent entirely at Caldicott and Burnham Beeches so that everyone was able to settle in. After a great tea of burgers and chips the boy relaxed by either watching X Factor or settling in for the Caldicott Cinema complete with popcorn. On Saturday nights the boys often move dorms so they can be together with their mates who are staying in. We also let the boys have their iPods and DS games on the weekend.

Sunday morning means a lie-in, and quite a few like to meet up in the Snug (our brand new upstairs Common Room) for a quick brew and the chance to watch the repeat showing of Match of the Day.

Breakfast is later on Sunday - 0900 - and the ‘full-on English’ is eagerly looked forward to by everyone:

Full English
Still lots to spare

Everyone then had the chance to relax, a huge game of the cult computer hit that is ‘Midtown Madness’ (driving cars around San Francisco very fast) ensued, and then we all met for a walk into Burnham Beeches (the local woods which we are very lucky to have across the road). Everyone enjoyed the chance to get some fresh air and we had the first game of ‘Capture the Flag’ of the new year.

Oh dear - Dominic off the road!

This took us up to lunch where a huge Sunday meal was enjoyed by all:

A great lunch
The boy looking at the camera is one of the Housemaster's children. Mixing well with Caldicott boys.
He is also in the top picture.

In the afternoon some of the boys took part in the old boys' rugby tournament, and others enjoyed riding around on the school bikes or simply relaxing.

As it was still almost just summer we used that as an excuse to have some ice creams too.

Great!
Ice-cream - delicious!

Everyone gets one
Yet more ice-cream: and yet more of the Housemaster's children (centre)!

Later on in the day the other boarders rejoined us and everyone got changed into their Sunday Best for Chapel. All the boys staying in had a great time and they all went to bed happy, but most were asleep very quickly indeed.
