You can't make an omelette ... |
| ... without breaking eggs. This morning, at 0800, the electricity throughout the school had to be disconnected. The substation has been completely upgraded, and the electricians needed some hours to re-make all of the connections. Communication was impossible for that time: the email and telephones were off. It came on again at 1300, and now all is working fine.
On a more 'fun' note, had an interesting message from ex-Caldicott boy Ollie Broom (See Common Entrance, Radley, here), who is cycling to Australia in time for the Ashes.

Although the UK is currently incommunicado via airline traffic because of the Iceland volcano, this update is not to do with the weather. It was beautifully sunny this morning. Since then the clouds have rolled in.
Despite that, summer is definitely here: the Caldicott Summer Uniform is available!

This morning The Times published an article about Nick Clegg, who impressed an enormous number of people in Thursday's TV debate.
As you may know, he is ex-Caldicott. Look for the Westminster entry on this link.
Caldicott is mentioned in the fourth paragraph.
Looking forward to the next two debates ... |
Today the boarders return for the summer term. Despite the volcanic ash crisis, only about 20 have not been able to return on time. Fortunately, now that the air restrictions have been withdrawn, everyone else should be back soon.
Here are two pictures of happy 5th Formers unpacking in the Centenary Hall:

It is now 1155, and I write this when the boys have jsut finished their third lesson of the day. They had a lot of fun at break, in what is hopefully the first day of lots of beautiful summer weather:

The House Competition is already going strong:

After lunch there will be some lessons, and then the first Athletics' session of term - time trials for the 100m. The Caldicott Athletics Meeting is just two weeks away. |
