Mr Doggart reminded boys that, although we are drawing closer to the end of term, we shouldn't start winding down yet; we should continue to work very hard right up until the very last day of term. Mr Summers informed us of plenty pleasing rugby results from this week, all of which can be found here. He was also thrilled to award U11 Colours to R Marshall, W Hobbs, C Sellers, M Stalder and F Heffer. The boys came forward to collect their ties and shake the Headmaster's hand.

Mr Granville then told us about the Primary Maths Challenge, which is a national competition entered by thousands of Year 5 and Year 6 pupils across the country. The following managed to win awards in the competition:

Gold Awards
J Chang (top scorer in the school), O Garrood, J Oakland, H Pooley
Silver Awards
S Beesley, D Eglinton, J Fennell, S Forbes, A Gill, C Rushton, T Williams
Bronze Awards B Andreae, D Bamberg, O Bell, G Green, J Lagesse, R Litton, H Martin, J Masih, R Peel, R Pope, C Tallis, G Temple, T Ward

Finally, a few reminders from Mr Smith:

-boys need to be careful not to scuff the walls with their shoes, as scuff marks are very difficult to remove
-the magnetic ball bearings that boys appear to be collecting are no longer allowed in school; they should be taken home this weekend and not brought back in.

He also talked through the arrangements for today, which include a large number of the 5th and 5th form going to the Varsity Rugby match at Twickenham today and the day boys having their Christmas lunch.

He also reminded all day boys that, since there is no games nor P.E. next week, they are to take all their sports kit home tomorrow. The changing room should be completely empty at the end of school on Friday.

Felix et fur

5C celebrated a successful term of Latin by re-enacting their translation of 'Felix et fur' (Felix & The Thief). The story is about Felix, who was once a slave of Caecilius (our main man). We discover the heroic tale that ultimately led to Caecilius granting Felix his freedom.

L-Gordon

Here we see L Gordon portraying the fur (thief) creeping into the cubiculum (bedroom) and stealing Quintus, Caecilius' son.

A-Holmes-2

The infans (baby) wakes up; the fur (played this time by A Holmes) tries to stifle its cry but it's too late.

W-Prew--G-Naylor-2

Felix (G Naylor) rushes to find the infans and beats the fur (W Prew) half to death! When Caecilius hears that Felix has rescued his son, he frees him.

Day Boys' Christmas Lunch

Yesterday the day boys were treated to a delicious Christmas lunch, complete with all the trimmings: crackers, party hats, turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing, crispy roast potatoes and chocolate arctic roll! The picture below shows a table of 4th Formers enjoying their food with Mr Thompson!
