This, the first Assembly of term, began with the Headmaster welcoming the newcomers: first the boys, then the staff. He reminded them of the Caldicott way, which is to help anyone if they appear lost: everyone helps, even if they are not best friends!
Then some Highly Commended awards were made for history work (Armada Diaries) from last term: They were to F Andreae, N Brown, B Maxwell, T McCullagh, A Nicol, A Peters and M Temple.
He then congratulated the boys on the ski trip. Yesterday had been difficult. The boys had got up at 3am for their flight home, only to find that there was chaos at Geneva airport. The flight was delayed for some hours, but the boys remained positive and always polite.
Mr Doggart concluded by saying that it is important to get straight down to work. This applies to everyone in the school, but particularly to the Sixth Form, in the run-up to their final examinations. They should also organise themselves to do extra work in the evenings. This is important preparation for the more independent ways of the senior schools.
Mr Smith then told the boys that there have been some injuries reported in schools from throwing snowballs. Fortunately none at Caldicott. They will have chances to play in the snow, but it must be with an adult present. He reminded them about manners and the words 'thank you'. This was particularly helpful at Geneva yesterday!
It reminds me of something I was told many years ago: You catch more flies with honey than you do with fly-paper!
To conclude - the current House scores:
