Well done to H Pooley (8.02) for this good writing: The Rain ForestI scanned the scene around me. To the left of me I saw some moss covered tree stumps. I moved closer and saw a colony of bull ants scurrying about. I hoped they wouldn’t come out and bite me with their terrifying and sharp pincers. Above me the trees formed a roof of leaves and blotted out the sun making everything around me seem dark and gloomy. Monkeys were dangling from vines which were hanging from the canopy of leaves above me. “Ooh ooh, aah aah,” they screeched, which started to frighten me. Exotic, colourful birds were tweeting loudly to the right side of me. They were perched on top of a branch which was overhanging a tumbling waterfall. The water was plummeting down to the depths of a bright blue pool below. The tropical climate was hot and humid. I felt as if I was being roasted on an open fire. I needed water and fast. I had to get to that pool below which was sparkling in the sun. I just had to get to it, but how I did not know. I looked round and spotted a vine hanging over the edge by the waterfall. I swung down like Tarzan but at the bottom I crashed into a tree lying across the path to the pool and ended up in the cool water! |
