Eating Well

22 April 2017

On Tuesday 25 April, boys in the 1st, 3rd and 5th Forms had the opportunity to listen to Janet Padfield from Apples to Zinc.

Janet talked to the boys about how eating well can help with their schoolwork, well-being and their health later in life.  The topics that they discussed were; the teenage diet, the sugar tax, body image and what the right types of foods are that they should be eating.

The boys learnt the three primary nutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and fats) and the micronutrients that they need for their body and mind and why it is important to eat a healthy, balanced and colourful diet.

The boys were very interested in learning about how much sugar is in certain food. To their surprise, they learnt that a Wispa bar contains less sugar than an Innocent smoothie does, something that is always seen as the healthy option.  With this in mind, being mindful about what you eat and drink is very important.

The talks ended with some fantastic questions from the boys and they all departed with a greater understanding of how food and exercise can improve their concentration at school, reduce illness and improve their quality of life when they grow up.
