New Year Piano Recital

24 January 2018

On Tuesday, we had a wonderful day of music making with our guest, Luis Pares, for our New Year Piano Recital.

Luis Pares is a concert pianist who has enjoyed an international career as a soloist and chamber musician performing in numerous countries around the world.  He visited Caldicott to play two concerts and give a special coaching session to some of our own budding pianists.

Pieces included Beethoven's First Movement of "Pathetique" Sonata Op. 13, Tchaikovsky's Nocturne Op. 10 No. 1 and Rachmaninov's Prelude in E flat major Op. 23 No. 6.

For both concerts, selected boys also had the opportunity to play, which they did with excellent levels of accuracy and confidence, giving some really commendable and enjoyable performances.

The boys' pieces included Waltz in G by Smetana, Duet Boogie Woogie in Straight-8 and Prelude in E by Scriabin.

Director of Performing Arts, James Wild said, “We had a wonderful day on Tuesday.  Thank you to the parents who supported the concert and thank you to the boys for sharing their music with us and for their time and effort in preparation.  Luis Pares, proved to be an extraordinarily dynamic and musical virtuoso pianist as well as an inspirational teacher, and it was a privilege for us to have him here.  Many thanks to him for giving us such a wonderful insight into piano playing and piano music, and demonstrating the capability of our concert Steinway with such skill and musicianship. I hope all our young musicians felt inspired and encouraged to continue their studies and enjoy music making to the full.”
