New Year Celebratory Piano Recital

24 January 2020

On Thursday, a group of Caldicott’s finest pianists gave two wonderful performances using the School’s Concert Steinway grand piano. The first performance was to day boys and the second to boarders, parents and guests.

The boys played a mixture of pieces including Piano Sonata No17 in Bb, K570. 1st Mvt by Mozart, Film Noir by Cornick and Nocturne Op72, No 1 by Chopin. The boys were also treated to a duet by visiting music teachers, Mr Murray and Mr Frankel. They played Mars, from The Planets Op 32 by Holst.

The New Year Recital is a great way for the boys to see their peers play the piano at a high standard. It is hoped that seeing others encourages them to keep going with their own studies on a musical instrument, or maybe start to learn.

Both concerts were a delight and a great way to display the talents of the thriving piano department at Caldicott.

The department is now looking ahead to a concert by the Slough Philharmonic, The Piano Festival at Pangbourne College, the Spring Concert, the Individual House Music Competition as well as many music lessons, instrument lessons and ensemble practices. Music at Caldicott, in all forms, is going from strength to strength.
