100% pass rate in Common Entrance and record-breaking Scholarships

01 July 2020

Our Year 8 leavers will definitely have a story to tell when they are older about their last year at prep school. For their last term to be mostly one of virtual learning was something no one could ever have envisaged, and we were so happy they were able to return to school at the eleventh hour.

Common Entrance exams complete, the boys were handed their exam results and leavers ties as they officially became Old Caldicotians. This is a ceremony that happens annually and it was fantastic that we were able to do it in person in this unusual year.

Our scholarship record reached a new high for the second time in three years and with boys enjoying 100% success at Common Entrance, our academic culture, coupled with a commitment to the all-rounder experience, is clear to be seen. In his Speech Day address, Mr Banks thanked the staff for their commitment to each individual boy over the years to get to these end goals. This is the first year in the school’s history that Caldicott has a ‘full house’ of the various scholarships that are offered and the senior schools where the boys progress to are the most selective and highly regarded schools in the country.

To celebrate their success in Common Entrance, and to give them a proper send-off, they enjoyed a week back at school, boarding, and taking part in a variety of activities to mark the end of their Caldicott career.

A return to boarding was a huge undertaking for the Boarding staff to make sure all boys were safe and happy once back at school. While the majority of boys were able to return, those that couldn’t did not miss out and were able to take part in some activities remotely, as well as have their own programme to celebrate the end of the year.

As part of their Leavers’ Week, the boys heard from explorer Charlie Walker, took part in a quiz and a first aid course, listened to Peter Hall about drug awareness and watched their Leavers’ Got Talent presentations in a mini screening in the Performing Arts Centre. They also enjoyed BBQs and time in Burnham Beeches to wind down.

For their last day at school, the boys gathered in Centenary Hall to watch the Speech Day and Prize Giving film, together with staff, before being collected by their parents.

We would like to wish all the boys every success at their senior school and look forward to welcoming them back to Caldicott in the future.
