Backstage at the British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards 2020

17 September 2020

Just before lockdown, Aarav S (Year 8) was invited to help backstage at The British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards 2020 held in London in March. Celebrating its sixth year, the BEDSAs provide a unique opportunity to celebrate and reward Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) sporting excellence, help to increase sports participation by BAME communities and inspire the next generation of sporting talent.

The event was attended by 400 guests from the worlds of sport, media and commerce, and was hosted by Lenny Henry. To support the event, Aarav was due to accompany Jofra Archer to and during the event but due to Covid-19, Jofra Archer wasn't able to attend. However, Aarav still managed to attend the event and volunteered to help out backstage and accompany other sporting heroes including Maro Itoje, whilst they collected and announced awards.

Aarav had a fantastic time at the awards; seeing first hand how these events are run and what happens behind the scenes was an experience he won't forget. Aarav did a marvellous job and this dedication was rewarded with an invitation to help again next year.
