27 November 2020

This Sunday is Advent Sunday and I am delighted to share that the spirit of Christmas is beginning to be felt by the boys. The headline is that a classic Caldicott Christmas, that is covid-safe, is being planned and every boy will have plenty to look forward to as the end of term looms. Although we will not be going to London for our Carol Service, our Chapel Master and Director of Music are planning Year Group Bubble Carol Services and we will share the recordings with you. This means that Saturday 12 December will be a normal school day with both day boy and boarders pick-up times remaining at the same time as normal. Sadly the Friends of Caldicott cannot come on site, so our wonderful Housekeeping staff will decorate the Christmas Trees and boarders will be able to sing around the tree when the time comes.

Looking ahead to the last few days of term, the Day Boys Christmas lunch will go ahead as normal and the Boarders Feast on their last night of term is looking even more splendid than ever. The Performing Arts Centre will be transformed into a grand Dining Hall in a style that would befit Hogwarts with our catering team preparing the meal, teaching staff participating and presents being shared. I am told that there will be staff sketches, ‘Caldicott’s Got Talent’ and even fireworks with a huge bonfire, marshmallows to toast and a fireworks display. Having overcome the challenges of boarding this term, they deserve this fun.

What more can I say! It’s been a term in which we have battled to ensure the boys benefit from the education they deserve and to preserve the celebration of Christmas at school, which is a rite of passage for prep school children.
