Caldicott visits Arbour Vale School for Festive Fun

05 December 2019

‘It was good to see how they learn at Arbour Vale. It was also really nice that they shared their work with us. I enjoyed it very much’ - Anton F (Year 5)

It was with great excitement that Caldicott received an invitation to join Arbour Vale School in Slough for some festive fun before the school holidays.

Many of the children from Arbour Vale have visited Caldicott in the past to play cricket with the senior boys and to sing carols around the school’s Christmas tree. It was therefore lovely to return the favour, see some familiar faces and be able to see around their school.

When the boys arrived, they were warmly welcomed into Saroj Nyman’s Key Stage 4 class, which is a class for children who have profound special needs. The boys spent the first part of the morning learning Makaton sign, which is designed to provide a means of communication to individuals who cannot communicate efficiently by speaking. They learned how to sign ‘Christmas’, ‘Santa’, ‘present’, ‘snowman’ and several other festive words which the boys were very excited about. They were then invited into the Hall for a performance of some funky festive show tunes that the school have been rehearsing for their Nativity show. The boys and girls gave an amazing performance that was full of energy and sheer joy. Their final goodbyes were made after some delicious snacks and refreshments.

‘It is such a valuable relationship that we have with Arbour Vale School and we thank them for the wonderful welcome we received. It was such an incredible visit and one we will treasure. The boys were buzzing about it on the drive back to school.’Senior Master, Jo Duncan

‘I enjoyed learning sign language and it was great to see them perform and dance’Charlie K (Year 5)
