Our New Director of Music

18 June 2021

Following a keenly contested recruitment process, with support and guidance from an expert consultant, we are delighted to announce that James Paget will be Caldicott’s next Director of Music.

James combined his studies at the London College of Music under Professor Jonathan Melling with the position of Deputy Organist at St Mary-le-Strand in Westminster. He was appointed Organist of Rannoch School and the three churches within the glen, and moved to Caldicott in September 2000 as Assistant Director of Music and Chapel Organist. After a period playing in the music department at St Paul’s, Knightsbridge, he is now the Organist and Director of Music at St Mary Magdalene-in-Paddington. Recent recitals have included Westminster, Southwark and Portsmouth cathedrals.

He is also active as a répétiteur and occasional MD for a number of operatic and musical theatre companies and is currently the Hon. Secretary of the St Mary Magdalene Music Society, a charity that promotes music and musical opportunities in the most deprived ward in Westminster. James is the musical force behind the cantata duo Giblet and Sillivan (you may well remember the Grand Summer Extravaganzas!) and they are currently working on another classical Greek episode!

On his appointment James said 'having worked at Caldicott for such a long time one is terrifically excited about leading the Music School from September. Music has always been a deep passion of mine and I can think of no better place to incite a love of music in others.’

We wish him the very best of luck and we look forward to seeing the Music Department flourish under his leadership, playing an important part in the all-round Caldicott experience.
