The 3rd Form enjoyed an exciting learning experience outside of the classroom on Thursday when they visited the world-famous Science Museum in London. Known for its award-winning exhibitions, iconic objects and stories of incredible scientific achievement, it was the perfect place to enhance the boys’ learning in their Science lessons.

Our understanding of space is forever evolving, and the boys were taken through this in a hands-on ‘Missions to Space Workshop’; using volunteers and lots of experiments (including launching some rockets of their own!) the boys were thoroughly engaged.

Next was Antarctica 3D, where a BBC video narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch transported the group into the frozen wasteland. A definite highlight was the artistic pooing penguins, which are used not only to entertain boys on a school trip, but also used by scientists to count how many penguins there are – we have discovered hundreds more penguins using this method. Boys also took turns trying to grab animals as they flew towards them!

As well as exploring the museum’s other remarkable features, the boys finished the trip by embarking into the space gallery. In an attempt to emulate life in space, the 3rd Formers tried to use a screw and bolt with an astronaut glove, which proved a challenging end to a great day.
