Let me tell you about George. He’s a boy in the 6th Form who has always had a kind heart, he’s secured a place at a great senior school (with an award on top) but he didn’t quite make it when it came to the appointment of School Prefects or House Captain. Like every other boy he was told the tragic news the other day, yet despite no connection whatsoever, he stayed behind to volunteer his time to help with boys in the 2nd Form. Thank you, George.

Caldicott is a school that follows the Anglican tradition, and a stated aim is to ensure that Chapel plays a central role in how we go about our lives in this community. This is why we extend an invitation for you to join us in Chapel each Saturday at 11.45. Every boy takes part in this collective act of worship and, as many of you have witnessed, we sing hymns enthusiastically. The boys also listen carefully and participate. We are also a diverse community which we consider to be representative of modern multicultural Britain, with 15% oversees boys too, which combine to make us feel globally connected. With that diversity, logically it means we are multi-faith and yet all boys attend Chapel as we take the view that the Christian messages capture the key messages of world faith, in particular love.

I grew up in Leicester in the 1970s and 1980s where my father was a clergyman at the Church of England Cathedral so I witnessed first-hand the power of a vibrant multi-faith community. Although there was a setback a couple of years ago, our family has always been proud that the hard work then has meant the city in the last 20 years or so has often been regarded as a fine example of how communities can co-exist very positively.

Our thoughts this week have been with a much loved member of our community and I will be glad to pay my respects in prayer at a local Gurdwara on Saturday. As a small mark of further respect, the image at the top of the newsletter is of the Khanda, which is a familiar Sikh symbol, has been included in this newsletter which seemed more appropriate than the usual smiling face of a child.

The week has also been action-packed, so please scroll down to read more and keep a look out for more incredible scholarship news. Finally, please have a good exeat and ensure that the boys get some rest.
