We are fortunate at Caldicott to often hear news of the incredible successes that Old Caldicotians have at their senior schools, and so it was with great delight that Ma’am Duncan received an email this week to inform her of recent OC appointments at Harrow.

The appointments are as follows:

Barimah Adomakoh – Head Boy

Arnaud du Roy de Blicquy -Deputy Head Boy

Tiarnan O’Brien – Head of Bradbys

Toby Ferneyhough – Vice Captain of Rugby

Jack Artis – Captain of Fives

We are incredibly proud of our Old Caldicotians who get stuck into all aspects of life at their senior schools and look to make an impact in their chosen fields. What inspirations they are to the younger generation of Caldicotians, and we wish them all the best for the coming year.

The boys have written to us below to explain how they feel about their exciting news – this is accompanied by pictures of them now, and from their time with us at Caldicott!

My reaction to the news was one of disbelief. Not only was I overjoyed with the news, but it felt like only yesterday that I was playing rugby on Top Field. I now only hope to live up to the legacies of my predecessors and help the school environment improve for all students.

The role of Head Boy will involve mean upholding traditions such as performing the Contio (a 15-minute speech in Latin, which I will have to write). Having last taken Latin in year 9, I look forward to the challenge! More importantly, I perceive the role of Head Boy as the opportunity to be a servant leader. The position will give me a platform to express any suggestions or concerns from all boys at the school directly to those who have the ability to impact change. This will mean attending meetings on almost all topic points in the school, as well as meeting with the Headmaster and Deputy Headmaster on a weekly basis.

To current students of Caldicott and OC’s, I would say the best piece of advice would be to take advantage of every opportunity presented to you. Not only will this help you develop personal life interests, but it also provides the chance to connect with all aspects of the community you are living in. It is not about being the best at any given activity or academic subject, it is about fulfilling your potential and encouraging those around you to fulfil theirs.

Barimah Adomakoh

Head Boy

Finding out that I was going to be Deputy Head of School was a moment that I will never forget. I feel honoured and privileged to have developed into a boy appointed to this position. I am keen to use this position to leave a legacy at the school by having a role where I can influence decisions and help the school change positively. To be made Head of House * is also a great responsibility, which I could not have achieved without all the boys who I have grown alongside in house for the last 4 years. I look forward to the challenge of leading Elmfield to success in all competitions next year.

Arnaud du Roy de Blicquy

Deputy Head Boy

On my appointment, I think that I tried to apply myself by the values that were instilled in me during my time at Caldicott – essentially treating everybody exactly as I would want to be treated. I was very excited to receive the news, having worked so hard for four years, and I am massively looking forward to the next academic year. Of course, it is very cool to see both the Head and Deputy Head boys of Harrow being OCs, and so a massive congratulations to both Barimah and Arnaud.

Tiernan O’Brien

Head of House, Bradbys

I was overwhelmed when I was appointed Vice-Captain elect of Rugby for the 2022-23 season. It was an honour to be trusted to lead such a broad cohort of talented players. The role will involve acting as a role-model, showing tenacity and playing fairly. The skills I learnt at Caldicott will undoubtably play a part, and I thank Mr Hutchings and Mr Robinson for their hard work.

Toby Ferneyhough

Vice-Captain of Rugby

Fives was a new sport to me when I joined Harrow in 2013 and I’m delighted to have become the Captain of Fives for the 22/23 season, as we had a great season this year. When you arrive at a new school it is tempting to stick with sports you know and love (in my case cricket, but also football and rugby) but you will find a much larger range of possibilities with coaching available. I tried Judo, Harrow Football and Croquet as well as Fives and have represented my house in several of these. I’m looking forward to introducing new boys to Fives and seeing them enjoy representing the school as much as I have.

Jack Artis
