We are always happy to play the role of hosts, and this week that has been the case more often than not. With the Caldicott U9 festival taking place on Tuesday, the Rugby Sevens for U12s and U13s on Wednesday, and the U8s and U11s getting their respective opportunities on Saturday, there has been a vibrant atmosphere throughout the school.

The event that saw the biggest turnout of spectators was the Rugby Sevens for the senior boys on Wednesday; this national competition saw 15 other schools from across England pile onto our pitches for a spectacle of an afternoon. Far from being an event all about the players, our boys who weren’t playing experienced the reality of hosting an event on such a large scale. Warmly hosting visitors, overcoming logistical challenges and finding solutions to last minute curveballs were just a few of the valuable experiences our boys gained under their belts.

In terms of the rugby itself, we were treated to some explosive matches. Whilst the U9s festival doesn’t decide a winner, the boys played some great rugby. As for the senior event, while we didn’t take home either cup, the U12s took home the plate, as they won their final two matches after narrowly missing out on placing top of their group. The U13s had an even better finish, coming 3rd overall out of the 16 participating teams. Well done to all the boys involved in making the day a success!

We’re looking forward to more matches this Saturday as the U8s and U11s play in their respective events. Just round the corner is our international rugby tournament: the National Schools 10s, with schools from all over the UK and as far afield as Kenya and Dubai taking part. On Saturday 23 March, we are hosting what has become, the leading Rugby 10s event for prep school aged boys. All are warmly invited to what will be a great day for the whole family, complete with great food, drink and, of course, competitive matches.
