On Tuesday, 25th February the 3rd form visited the National Army Museum in London as part of their World War 1 studies. Although there is a superb exhibition on World War 1, there are also exhibits on the role of the British Army over the past few hundred years culminating in Britain’s involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan. The boys had the opportunity to see a range of World War 1 weapons as well as propaganda posters and even a recreation of a trench complete with its own rat! Each group also spent a session with one of the Museum expert educators analysing sources about the lives of various people involved in World War One from an officer killed at the age of 20 sat on the edge of a trench to a soldier who was the first Indian to win the Victoria Cross. The boys presented their findings to the rest of the group and even dressed one of their number in the relevant uniform. Overall, it was a fascinating day, supplementing the boys’ history learning with real life examples. Thanks go to Mr Fildes for organising the trip.
