Another week, another commendation! We are delighted to share that our hard-working staff have been recognised again for all their efforts, this time for pastoral care.

Last week, the Boarding School Association made Caldicott a finalist at their Annual Awards, and this week the highly regarded blog, Muddy Stilettos has named Caldicott as a top prep school for pastoral care. With over 400 entries for this prestigious award, our ‘Highly Commended’ places us amongst the very best in the country. Congratulations to our Pastoral Team for their inspiring work.

Our ambitious Wellbeing Agenda which we discussed in our nomination, includes a refreshed range of responsibilities for a tutor (a role better understood as a ‘mentor’) The Wellbeing Survey and The Rock Award.

The Rock Award is so called because a rock is solid and reliable; it is resilient and it can be built upon. Caldicott is trying to develop boys with these characteristics and so we feel it is a rather fitting name. There are awards for the Lower, Middle and Senior School, with the criteria for winning hard to specify. It may be a one-off act of kindness, thoughtfulness or generosity, but equally it could also be continued excellent work in a particular area of school life, that goes unnoticed by most people.

The Wellbeing Survey is something our Pastoral Team is very proud of. It uses weekly, quantitative data to support the tutors’ own views as experts in understanding the wellbeing needs of each tutee. We use an algorithm which enables us to proactively identify and address issues before they escalate, on an individual, year-wide and school-wide basis.

It is important to recognise that these are just a couple of the methods we use to ensure the wellbeing of our boys. Many avenues are used in conjunction, to triangulate the wellbeing needs of each boy, and consider the context of the individual.
