It’s widely known that most schools don’t require a summer uniform for pupils, but we do and although no-one has asked, there is no better place to start a blog at the beginning of the Summer Term.

Robert Badem-Powell said ‘The uniform makes for brotherhood’ and we experience something similar here as boys walk into their school. Of the many ingredients to a Caldicott education, that sense of brotherhood is a key characteristic. With the uniform feeling comfortable and looking good (albeit with a couple of extra layers at the moment), each boy is subtly reminded that they belong and that their destiny is in their own hands, operating as one piece of the complex jigsaw which is the Caldicott community.

I explored this theme in the first assembly of term. The author Bob Moawad said ‘The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours – it is an amazing journey and you alone are responsible for the quality of it’. It might seem on first reading that this is contrary to message of ‘community’, but not at all, as for me this is a message of personal responsibility. Not only can every boy play their part, every boy must play their part. This is Caldicott.

It has been great to welcome new boys this term and, as you recall from a previous communication, we also welcome Ma’am Cook who will teach MFL. We wish them all well. Looking ahead over the coming months we have some incredible events that were shared in social media and later in this newsletter. Please diarise as many as you can as we always enjoy seeing you here.

It has been lovely to welcome the boys back and I hope to see you soon. With the Relationships and Sex Education Talks on Saturday (there has been an email), the cricket presentation and then internal fixtures, we will no doubt speak soon.
